Believe what you want

It was at a wedding. Everyone had had a great time, dancing and singing and getting drunk. A hotel had been booked for the guests. So, after the reception, Ricky went off to his room which he was sharing with his mate, Tom. Ricky and Tom were in their twenties, too old to imagine things or have nightmares. Both of them had just about managed to control themselves and were sober.

They went to bed and fell asleep quickly. At about one o clock in the morning, Ricky woke up. At first he wasnt sure what had awoken him, but then he felt it. A cold chill ran down his spine. Someone, or something, was watching him. 'Tom?' he whispered. But there was no reply. Ricky heard a grunt - Tom was snoring; he was asleep. Ricky sat up in bed. He was now fully awake - he wasnt in that half awake half asleep state where you could be thinking anything was happening - and he was terrified. Ricky could sense that there was something in the room that wasn't meant to be there. 'Tom!' he said again. There was another grunt. 'What' said Tom, who had woken up. Ricky felt the cold presence slowly disappear. 'Didn't you feel that?' he said.

'What? I was asleep' said Tom. A minute or so later, Tom was snoring again. Ricky lay awake, too scared to sleep, but the strange presence didn't return. Eventually, tiredness overcame fear, and at about half two in the morning, Ricky finally got back to sleep.

In the morning, Ricky explained the strange feeling to Tom, who said they should ask the care taker. The caretaker asked what room they had been sleeping in, and Ricky told him: 103. The caretaker gave a knowing nod.

"A hundred or so years ago, a little girl was murdered. She was killed just outside that door, when she was trying to get in. A lot of people claim to have seen her ghost, but she never seems to do anything. She just sort of... exists."

This is a TRUE story. I know you will be sceptical. You'll think im making it up, having a bit of a laugh coz i havent got anything better to do. Believe what you want. I know its true. If i was having a laugh, i would claim to be the ghost just about here... but im not. I'm not the murderer either. I just happen to know Ricky. I'm not Tom either. But I tell you, it's true. If you don't believe me, fine. Just remember this story when something you can't explain happens, when you feel like someone is watching you but there's no one there. When you are all alone and you hear something no one should be able to hear. A presence that shouldn't exist...
