April, May and June and that month with Christmas day
Are the favorites of the bards with clever words to say.
But the tenth month of the year is noted for rearranges
Between the Summer and the Fall and all those changes
Seem to fall in the month of October.
The ripened crops of Summer are gleaned from the fields.
The fattened cattle on ranches are herded from the hills.
The leaves on the trees are turned golden brown
And in the northern breeze fall glistening to the ground
In the colorful month of October.
It's back to school for children but on Columbus Day
They all stay at home to play on that holiday.
The many ghost and goblins giggle on their way
To trick or treat the neighbors on a Halloween foray
In that wonderful month of October.
Wild geese, Whooping Cranes and Monarch Butterflies
Are thrilling to see in the south bound azure skies.
We marvel to see God's hand in this great migration
And the handiwork in caring for all of His creation
So evident in the month of October.
Some folks see the seasons as life's parallel
But one gross delusion we surely must dispel.
The last quarter is not the beginning of the end
It is that wondrous time when great things begin
In life's month of October.
Gather in your harvest of labors of the past
Yes, a little gold and silver, just enough to last.
Spread a lot of sunshine on friends you have found
For the greatest trove of all are diamonds in your crown
When you leave to others that month of October.
