Poem

Heartbeat

Inside this aged body beats a heart of gold,
A mind alert and a zest for life,
A story is in me that must be told,
Of times that were happy, and times of strife.
People look at me and see my wrinkled skin,
Some believe that I'm about to dry up and blow away,
They do not see the fire that burns within,
Or hear the words I'm about to say.
The body may be old, but my spirit is strong,
I still have the curiosity of a child,
I love the high country to which I belong,
And I love the creatures of the forest, free and wild.
