I hoped for a daughter, but God gave me a boy.
My first look at him overwhelmed me with joy!
Such a charming face, an enchanting smile,
it was Gary Jr. I wanted all the while.
Hurt and deserted with my second baby,
I thought of his uncle, and named him Stevie.
Divorcing me, his daddy was nowhere around,
missing the joy of birth and baby’s first sound.
Two boys to raise with no father wasn’t right.
Swallowing my pride, I called their daddy that night.
Your sons need a father, please don’t leave them alone!
His heart softened and he came to take us home.
I yearned for a daughter, though I loved my little boys.
Sweet, innocent, Jody, brought us greater joys.
Finally, quite by accident, I got my darling girl.
Petite, beautiful Jeannie, the boys loved to swirl.
I was content with my lovely family,
but God decided to add to our tree.
A perfect baby, Lisa, what more could I ask?
What was best for them, was my soul’s task.
Three fathers for my children was not in my plans,
but God carried me through the shifting sands.
Gently holding my hand, helping me to live,
His special love gave me strength to forgive.
When I decided to marry daddy number two,
God gave me Bradley, as no one else would do.
God took his father, then I met number three.
That’s how I had the privilege of raising Ricky.
Teach your child in the way that he should go,
God commanded, and I taught them so.
When he is old he will not depart from it,
My faith in that promise will never quit.
It may take years and they may be very old,
but, God’s promises are more precious than gold.
Five wonderful sons and two precious daughters,
I know God is drawing them to living waters.
So you see dear children, there are many ways,
my love for you has grown as has the passing days.
Now choices you make for your children can impart,
knowledge that God hears and answers a contrite heart.
By faith I raised you in the knowledge of the Lord.
The Holy Spirit’s waiting to touch your heart’s chord
A touch that brings unfathomable peace from above.
A touch God endorses to fulfill a mother’s love.
