My words seem weak, but I must speak,
These words will have to do;
I’ll try to say them in a way
That makes it clear to you.
A friend is someone special; a true friend, you can trust!
A friend won’t criticize you when you do the things you must.
A firm friend’s always there for you, in good times and in bad;
A friend will brighten up your day and cheer you when you’re sad.
A friend’s a bulwark ‘gainst the storm, a prop to hold you up,
To sweeten your misfortunes when you taste life’s bitter cup!
And I have such a friend as this, a friend who’s firm and true,
So please believe me when I say that my best friend is you!
I hope maybe you’ll come to see
The feelings I express
Are from my heart! When we’re apart
I’m fraught with loneliness.
For several years, through smiles and tears,
You’ve been a friend who’s true!
You’ve eased the strife of this cruel life,
A precious friend are you.
So when we walk, just let me talk,
I feel secure with you,
And when I see you gaze at me,
No other dog will do!
