Poem

I'm 68 By The Clock

I'm 68 years by the clock
with never ceasing old tick-tock
But in my heart I'm just a kid -
would do again things that I did
When young and bubbling life within
sometimes led me to minor sin
With search for love that would remain,
tried kisses warm which led to pain
Left a true love for someone wild -
preferred the risk to something mild.
Alone at my age - not by choice -
but time has stilled familiar voice
Of one who traveled by my side.
Alone, I live while he has died
And I would love to meet again
adventure's child a man of men
Someone who'd tell me of his life
and share his warmth, his smile - not strife.
I'm told that women of my age
should not expect more than a sage.
But I confess it would not vex
if I could meet a man whose sex
Was more than memory in his past.
I'd take his lead and make it last.
